Maps

Maps is the recording name used by Northampton-based bedroom experimentalist turned dream pop auteur James Chapman. Influenced by Spiritualized, Galaxie 500, My Bloody Valentine and M83, James creates music that is partly shoegaze and partly electronica. His debut album We Can Create was released in April 2007 under critical acclaim and was even shortlisted for the well respected 2007 Mercury Music Prize album of the year.

Not one to rest on his laurels though, Mr. Chapman locked himself in a studio alongside Oliver Huntemann and Tim Holmes (Death In Vegas) and returned last month with the stunning single Let Go Of The Fear. Darker, angrier and more electronic than everything Maps have produced so far, it shows a new musical direction and sets high standards for second album Turning the Mind (set for a September release). If you can't wait until then to hear new stuff, head over to their MySpace for upcoming tour dates.
