A Place to Bury Strangers is a New York–based indie rock band composed of Oliver Ackermann (guitar/vocals), Jono MOFO (bass) and Jay Space (drums). Formed in 2003, the so-called "New York City's loudest band" plays a heavy, atmospheric wall of sound-influenced blend of shoegaze, garage, psychedelic and space rock. Mainly responsible for their '80s feedback-drenched drones are the effects pedals designed and built by Ackermann who also provides custom effects equipment to other rock bands such as U2, TV On The Radio and My Bloody Valentine.
APTBS released their self-titled debut album in 2007 on indie label Killer Pimp. Melding the sheer sonic assault of The Jesus And Mary Chain, My Bloody Valentine and Suicide with hammering, Factory Records-esque beats, Ian Curtis monotone and some bits of The Cure, this record awed most music journos and was enough to guarantee them support slots for the likes of Nine Inch Nails, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and MGMT.
Fast forward two years and the boys sign to Mute records for sophomore record Exploding Head. Due for release in October, this album picks up where their debut finished ie. expect feedback-drenched, pedal-driven guitars, motorik drumbeats and bleeding eardrums. So buy yourself a set of LOUD speakers, get rid of your neighbours and listen to APTBS full blast.
