If there is one thing I can say for Muse is that they have a wicked sense of humour. The Devon stars were invited to perform on TV channel RAI 2 to promote their stunning new album The Resistance on Sunday, September 20. However, the show's producers forbade them to perform live and forced them to give a playback performance (Top Of The Pops anyone?).
Furious, the band came up with a hilarious revenge: Matt Bellamy, the band's lead singer, swapped places with drummer Dominic Howard and frequently missed beats in order to point at the camera and wave his sticks above his head, while bass player Chris Wolstenholme took up guitar duties.
Although the guys were obviously taking the piss as everyone could tell just by watching the grin on their faces, the show's female presenter (who definitely isn't a MENSA candidate) didn't notice a thing. Muse continued the switch in their subsequent interview with Howard making a pointed reference to "our drummer Matt" LOL.
This was not the first time the band have sabotaged their own television performances after being told they must mime rather than play live. In 2001 Howard and Chris swapped instruments for an appearance on BBC children's television show Live & Kicking. However, the latest stunt outshines their previous prank. Simply priceless :-)
