Death By Kite
Tuesday, January 26, 2010Emerging from the Copenhagen underground scene, Death By Kite is one of the best noise-pop bands to come out of Scandinavia for years. Their sound is a tight-rope walk between post-punk and angst-driven indie, a mesmerizing mix of poppish, catchy melodies soaked in a cocktail of noise rock, shoegaze and new wave.
The band released their self-titled debut album in April 2007 under critical acclaim and has since then put out a couple of EPs (Wave I-II) and played numerous concerts thus establishing themselves as a popular live act. Vocal duties and guitars are courtesy of Bjørn Alexander Gøtzsche Lange whose remarkably high, light voice combined with the noisy guitar parts bring to mind Brian Molko and Placebo. Other obvious influences come from the likes of Sonic Youth, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Interpol, Joy Division and stellastarr*. Although Death By Kite Now may be a bit too abrasive for streamlined kiddie ears, they truly deserve a proper listen, take my word for it. Now what about that second album?
