800beloved is a Michigan-based indie group formed from the writing & production of Sean Lynch, a cosmetologist & assistant for a funeral home by day and a singer / songwriter by night. The band’s moniker, taken from a 1-800 telephone number, hints at the merger between two opposing themes -”800″ representing the interest in popular culture’s flimsiness while “beloved” alludes to the lyrical use of sacred, often dismal and ironically naive subject matter.
Host to numerous contributors since the project’s beginning in September 2005, the current incarnation of the band, Anastasiya Metesheva & Sean Lynch, performs selectively throughout the Midwest. After three years of production, their debut LP, entitled Bouquet, was launched on Valentine’s Day 2009 under the Moodgadget recording label. From its opening line, “Let’s kill everyone we know and hit the open road…” the eleven song album maintains a barrage of decadent one-liners amidst a whirlwind of glittery guitars and synthesizers. This is mainly an ’80s influenced pop record filled with dreamy melodies that has claimed the affections of both teenage audiences and post-punk / shoegaze devotees. If you are a fan of The Cure, Echo & The Bunnymen, The Psychedelic Furs, My Bloody Valentine, and M83 you will fall in love with 800beloved.
