Following Peter Hook’s departure from New Order in the Spring of 2007, Bernard Sumner (guitar, vocals) and Phil Cunningham (guitar) formed Bad Lieutenant alongside Jake Evans (guitar, vocals).
The trio have spent over a year writing, recording and mixing an album near Manchester, drafting in additional musicians including Stephen Morris (Joy Division / New Order) and Alex James (Blur). The material, titled Never Cry Another Tear and due for release on October the 5th, centres around crisp, streamlined, 21st century guitar music and sounds less electronic than New Order, something that doesn’t come as a surpise since the band features three guitarists. What remains to be seen is whether this band will top Freebass, aka Hooky’s new project.
