Bertie Blackman is an independent Australian singer, songwriter, and guitarist. She rose to fame with her folk-inspired debut album in 2004, entitled Headway, which came after years of prolific performances around Sydney’s Inner city venues where she developed a dedicated following. For sophomore album Black (2006) Bertie decided to move away from folk music and armed with an electric guitar she focused on rock, a turn that demonstrated her need to further develop her sound and evolve as an artist.
In 2008 Bertie signed with newly-formed Australian management company Forum 5 and after trading her guitars for keyboards, she began working on her third studio album, entitled Secrets and Lies. Scheduled for an early 2010 release in the UK, it will be preceded by the single Thump (out on 9th November), a track that sees Bertie’s haunting yet seductive vocals colliding with industrial electronics. Fans of La Roux, Little Boots, and Metric, this one is for you.
