Decorate Decorate is an art rock band from Copenhagen, Denmark. Formed in 2006 by Asbjorn Auring Grimm (vocals, lyrics), Martin Rasmussen (guitar), Mikkel Holtoug (keyboard, producer), Viggo Claussen (drums), and Christian Mathiesen (guitar), the quintet is musically influenced by David Bowie, My Bloody Valentine, Joy Division, and Sonic Youth. As for their lyrics, they cite Marquis de Sade, Albert Camus, Fjodor Dostojevskij, and Friedrich Nietzsche amongst others.
Judging from the above it’s a no brainer that Decorate Decorate are not making bubblegum pop; on the contrary, their sound has a dark, atmospheric ambience and a lyrical approach to topics like decay, desire, and the death of humanity. Their debut EP Normandie came out in 2007 and its captivating sound immediately captured the attention of the local media, but it wasn’t until last month that Instructions, their first full-length album, hit the record store shelves. Featuring a bunch of intense songs, this is a must for fans of Interpol, She Wants Revenge, and Editors.
