Dúné (pronounced Dew-nay) started in Skive, Denmark in 2001, when classmates Mattias Kolstrup (vocals), Malte Aarup-Sørensen (drums), and Simon Troelsgaard (guitar) joined forces with their female counterpart Anne Cecilie Dyrberg, who both mastered the synthesizer, the guitar, and could sing. Soon after Polish-born classical guitarist Piotrek Wasilewski, Danny Jungslund, and Ole Bjórn Sørensen came aboard and the magnificent seven were now ready to rock ‘n’ roll.
Eager to play music and with a determination to succeed, the band rehearsed and played as many venues as possible during the following years, thus earning a reputation as a stunning live act. In 2007 Dúné finally released We Are In There, You Are Out Here, a mash up of energetic rock, catchy melodies, and electro elements that earned them three Danish Music Awards (Best Danish Rock Album, Best Danish Band and Newcomers Of The Year), a European Borderbreakers Award, the P3-Gold-Award, a Carlsberg Scolarship Award, two Gaffa-Awards, and many more nominations – not a small feat for a bunch of kids who hadn’t even graduated from High School. This month the young Danes deliver the second chapter of their amalgamation of ’70s punk, ’80s pop, and ’90s indie rock under the name of Enter Metropolis. The new album sounds heavier, prickly, and more adult than the first one, but still exposes the raw energy of this amazing band. Check it out.
