Eagle*Seagull is an indie band from Nebraska formed in 2004 by singer / songwriter Eli Mardock. Teaming along with J.J. Idt (guitar and banjo), Mike Overfield (bass), Carrie Butler (violin and keyboards), Austin Skiles (guitar), and Britt Hayes (drums), they released their eponymous debut album in 2006 to universal critical acclaim, featuring so chart-hostile songs that they rarely stayed under the 5-minute mark, preferring to reveal their secrets bit by bit.
Although hard to fit into a specific genre, their sound combines elements of Blonde Redhead, Arcade Fire, Interpol, and David Bowie. Their keenly anticipated new full length album, The Year of the How-To Book, recorded with producer Ryan Hadlock (The Gossip, Blonde Redhead, Stephen Malkmus etc.), will be released in early 2010. Rumor has it that it will feature several tracks less than 4 minutes long, and this, I believe, won’t be the only surprise.
