Fan-Tan is a post-punk / shoegaze band from Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Formed in the fall of 2006 when Indonesian expatriates Kuki and Sandee Kooks met local singer / guitarist Ryan Lee Dunlap, the trio soon decided to relocate to New York where they ultimately shaped their sound. Drawing elements from early ’80s post-punk and New Wave, their emotionally charged music brings to mind bands like stellastarr*, My Bloody Valentine, Editors, Hot Fuss-era The Killers, and Arcade Fire.
There is so much talent oozing out of these guys that one can only wonder why they remain unsigned. If there is any justice left in this world, Fan-Tan’s upcoming full-length debut A Strange Game will give them the recognition they deserve. The band is touring to SXSW in March with Sensual Harassment, also from Brooklyn, so make sure to visit their website for tour dates.
