Filthy Dukes are a synthpop band from London, England. Originally the duo of Olly Dixon (sampling, electronic percussion, electric guitar) and Tim Lawton (synthesizers, lead vocalist), they were joined by record producer Mark Ralph (bass guitar, backing vocals) in 2005. After a series of remixes, they signed to Fiction records in January 2008 and released their debut album Nonsense in the Dark last March.
Influenced by contemporaries Hot Chip, Simian Mobile Disco, and Soulwax, as well as by older bands such as Can, Tangerine Dream and Roxy Music, their music has been described as “electroacidhousenuravetwisteddiscopunkfunk“, but you could also call it analogue electro-indie-kraut-pop… or simply good!
For the past 5 years Filthy Dukes also run a club night called Kill Em All at Fabric, London. Some of their guests include Justice, Erol Alkan, Bloc Party, Crystal Castles, The Chemical Brothers, and James Murphy, so if you are in town make sure to drop by.
