Named after a river in vocalist / guitarist Christopher Pearson’s home state of Oregon, new wave / post-punk revivalists Gran Ronde got their start in 2004. Based in Los Angeles, Pearson, Bryan Hobbs (bass), Fernando Sanchez (drums), and Neil Parek (guitar) performed at SXSW in March 2008 and released their EP On And On on Filter US Recordings the same year, followed by their full length debut album Secret Rooms. The latter’s UK release is scheduled for June 8, 2009 through Friends Vs Records.
Disciples of mood-laden British bands such as The Cure, Echo & The Bunnymen, The Jesus And Mary Chain, and Oasis, Gran Ronde have the style and sound of a lot of the artists that have emerged from the post-punk indie scene – only better. Their sound combines mesmerising guitar riffs, reverb choruses, and foot stomping beats that will undoubtedly fill with joy fans of Interpol, The Killers, The Bravery, Bloc Party, Editors, and White Lies.
