Hearts Of Black Science

Hearts Of Black ScienceHearts of Black Science is an alternative electronic rock act from Gothenburg, Sweden. Formed in late 2005 by childhood friends Daniel Änghede (vocals, guitars, bass) and Tomas Almgren (keyboards, programming, beats, production), the duo combines the melancholic darkness of Joy Division and Depeche Mode with the haunting melodies of New Order, M83, Maps, The XX, and Boards Of Canada.

In April of 2006 the band released a self-financed EP that sold out in just 2 months on MySpace, followed by a second EP a month later. Their debut album The Ghost You Left Behind came out in 2007 and was met with enthusiasm by both fans and international press. Featuring wave guitars, shoegaze harmonies, glitchy drum patterns, bleak keyboards, and dark lyrics, this record was the perfect soundtrack for a car drive on a rainy fall evening.

This year marks the return of the moody Swedes, whose sophomore effort The Star In The Lake maintains the band’s pop-noir roots but adds more energy to their sound. Songs like Giving In To Anger, Twilight, and Gold & Dust have the words “potential hit” written all over them. In a just world, this criminally underrated band should be fronting the covers of music magazines…
