Puressence is a rock band from Manchester featuring James Mudriczki (vocals), Lowell Killen (guitar), Kevin Matthews (bass), and Tony Szuminski (drums, percussion). Although they first emerged in 1992, it wasn’t until 1996 that they released their stunning self-titled debut album, followed by three more records (Only Forever, Planet Helpless, Don’t Forget To Remember) that unfortunately went criminally unnoticed in their home turf due to poor promotion by their label.
One can only wonder how a band that combines so many different facets of Manchester music (the acid house scene, The Stone Roses, The Happy Mondays, James, even Joy Division) doesn’t get the recognition it deserves – except Greece that is, where Mudriczki and Co. have a huge following, with numerous sold-out gigs in front of thousands of fans. September will see a new album from the band with an accompanying UK tour alongside some headline outdoor Greek shows, so if you haven’t heard of these melodic Mancunians before, now it’s your chance.
