Hailing from Manila, Philippines, Taken By Cars is an indie rock band comprised of Sarah Marco (vocals), Bryce Zialcita (guitar), Siopao Chua (guitar, synths, vocals), Isa Garcia (bass, synths, vocals), and Bryan Kong (drums, synths, sampler). The young quintet first started making waves in late 2006 when their underground demo A Weeknight Memoir (In High Definition) hit number one on Manila’s premier rock station NU107 and helped them build a fiercely devoted following of indie music fans, friends, and peers in the local music scene.
After relentless gigging, the band finally released their debut album Endings of a New Kind in 2008. Filled with infectious and dance-friendly indie rock gems, this widely praised sonic experience mixes sultry vocals with propulsive rhythms, angular guitars, and electronica that will appeal to fans of Bloc Party, Franz Ferdinand, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and The Rapture. With a new record currently in the works, here’s hoping that 2010 will also provide Taken By Cars with the opportunity to perform at a renowned international music festival and reach an exponentially wider audience. They surely deserve it.
