Tamaryn is a San Francisco-based raven-haired chanteuse whose doomed and ethereal music will make all fans of 4AD, ’80s goth, and coldwave groups feel at home. Somber and seductive, brooding and atmospheric, her voice is both a weight against the current of reverb-drenched guitars courtesy of Rex John Shelverton, and a floating ornament atop the driving drums that underpin her songs. Just think of This Mortal Coil meets Siouxsie and the Banshees with bits of Mazzy Star, Cocteau Twins, and Slowdive thrown in for good measure.
So far Tamaryn has released a couple of 7″ singles and the Led Astray Washed Ashore EP, for which she was assisted by TV On The Radio’s Jaleel Bunton, Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ guitarist Nick Zinner, and engineer Chris Coady. A full-length album is on its way, so if you want your music hovering between dark, tribal minimalism and lush post-punk grandiosity make sure to grab a copy as soon as the record is out.
