teenagersintokyo hail from Sydney, where their mix of dark electropop has earned them a fearsome reputation. Consisting of Samantha Lim (vocals), Sophie McGinn (guitar), Miska Mandic (keyboard), Linda Marigliano (bass), and Rudy Udovich (drums), the Aussie quintet take their cues not from their supposed contemporaries, but from the storied history of ’80s post-punk and new wave artists such as Siouxsie & The Banshees, Fleetwood Mac, Tears for Fears, Kraftwerk, and Talking Heads. One can even trace small bits of The Cure in the shimmering synths of Long Walk Home, so that’s another reason to keep an eye on these newcomers.
Determined to showcase their tunes to a wider audience, the band relocated to London and after a field trip in the Welsh mountains to record their highly anticipated debut album, they returned with stunning new single Peter Pan. Backed up with an Autobahn-style remix by Southend goths The Horrors, the track blends eerie synths with jagged, indie riffs, while Lim’s wailing vocals bring an extra shade of darkness to the mix. Fans of Ladytron will definitely love it.
