The Blackmail

The BlackmailThe Blackmail is a post-punk revival / indie rock band from Minsk, Belarus. Formed in 2007, the quartet of Maxim Kulsha (vocals, guitar, keyboards), Yurij Skopetc (guitar), Alexandr Sinica (bass), and Artur Granik (drums) have so far released a self-titled EP of six tracks that showcases what the band members define as the shared leaning towards a post-punk / garage aesthetic: “all of the songs are slightly colored by the spirit of the ’70s: a raw, if not severe emotionality that never looks back. The same spirit has also found expression in the EP’s cover-art: a monochrome style, somewhat foggy in appearance, and even with a slight loss of focus.

This record will definitely appeal to fans of Joy Division, The Smiths, Interpol, Editors, She Wants Revenge, and The Organ; let’s just hope that a full length album is well underway, because I can hardly wait.
