The Kick

The darkness of Swedish winters has definitely affected Gothenburg-based artist David Sundqvist. With influences ranging from shoegaze to goth and a fascination for mixing organic elements with machines, this young Swede makes “industrial pop” under the moniker The Kick.

After signing to SubSpace Communication, David released Dancer, a track of broken disco beats and vibrant bass lines. The follow-up single, My Darkest Hour, was an intense and altogether darker story, but it was single number three that really caught people’s attention; featuring vocals reminiscent of Trent Reznor, Freak is an intense and energetic alternative pop gem with the verse built around a pounding drumbeat, distorted bass, and the driving guitars in a chorus that sticks like glue.

Now, twelve of The Kick’s tunes are bonding on the very promising debut album Metal Heart. If you like Nine Inch Nails, IAMX, Cyanna, Duran Duran, and The Perfects, stop reading this post and head straight to The Kick’s site for purchasing details and tour dates. Highly recommended.
