Swedes Khaled Saibi (vocals, guitar), Peter Valtersson (guitar), Dan Holmgren (bass), and Adam Petersson (drums), aka The Monument (formerly known as Backslick), have been around for the past 4 years. Based in Gothenburg, this indie quartet has already released an eponymous EP full of energetic beats and Khaled’s off-kilter vocals that bring to mind Andy Partridge of XTC fame.
For their next two EPs though, they chose a quite darker sound reminiscent of Interpol, The National, The Cure, and Arcade Fire. Now, with more than 50 live-performances around Sweden under their belt and some heavy radio airplay, it seems that their EP days are over. The guys are back in the studio writing their debut album, record deal or not. If you want to judge for yourself whether they have the tunes, check them out on MySpace.
