Formed in late 2003, The Twilight Sad are an indie rock band from Kilsyth, Scotland composed of James Alexander Graham (vocals), Andy MacFarlane (guitar), Craig Orzel (bass), and Mark Devine (drums). Although their early shows saw them creating half-hour pieces of music with tape loops and toy instruments alongside bass, guitar, and drums, these sonic adventures gradually evolved into the more traditional songwriting and led to the recording of debut album Fourteen Autumns and Fifteen Winters (2007). Featuring a blend of post-rock and post-punk with heavily delayed shoegaze guitars and folk elements, this record received good critical reception from the independent music media and turned the band into a reference point for the up-and-coming Scottish indie scene at the time.
Fast forward two years and boys are back with sophomore record Forget The Night Ahead. For the recording process, the band disposed of their effect pedals and experimented with natural reverb using early krautrock techniques; fear not though, as the big melodies and vast romantic landscapes are still there. Fans of My Bloody Valentine, Arab Strap, and Mogwai have every reason to be happy.
