Winter Severity Index

Winter Severity IndexWinter Severity Index is a post-punk / new wave band from Rome, formed in 2008 by Simona Ferrucci (vocals, guitar), Diana Salzo (bass), Mushy (synth, keyboards), and Elyria (drums). Embracing the shadowy storms of sheer misery that turned Ian Curtis, Robert Smith, and Morrissey into poster boys for self-loathing teenagers, the Italian quartet produces dirgey soundscapes in which towering layers of distorted guitars and dry-ice synths intertwine with prominent bass lines and doomy yet propulsive drumbeats to create deliciously depressing gloom-fests.

Fans of The Organ, The Cure, Joy Division, Siouxsie & The Banshees, Sad Lovers And Giants, and The Chameleons should get their hands on the band’s debut EP and prepare to infuse their system with some essence of teenage brooding.
