Formed in 2002 by João Vieira (vocals, guitar), Fernando Sousa (bass), and Rui Maia (synthesizers, drums, drum machine), Portuguese X-Wife set their world-class standard early on with Feeding The Machine (2004), their debut album that introduced a band building on a post-punk inheritance from the likes of Suicide and Gang of Four. Its amalgamation of angular guitars, pounding rhythms, and analogue electronics received international acclaim and praise from LCD Soundsystem’s James Murphy, while its follow-up Side Effects (2006) showcased the work of a band that continuously strives to improve themselves.
Last September saw the released of their third and best effort so far; Are You Ready For The Blackout? is an energy-pulsing record characterized by a unique aesthetic coherence that is both modern and timeless. Fans of The Rapture, LCD Soundsystem, DFA 1979, and Foals will feel right at home.
