Annabel Lee is a standalone single inspired by Edgar Allan Poe’s final completed poem, written in 1849 and published after his death. The track follows the poem’s shifting emotional arc and moves from dreamlike memory to restless longing.
The first half unfolds as a slow, immersive shoegaze passage built around soft vocals, drifting guitars, and a hazy atmosphere. This section traces the poem’s opening stanzas (its fragile love, distant shores, and the quiet intrusion of fate) that echo the sense of something beautiful slipping away.
Midway through, the song changes shape. The tempo quickens, the guitars sharpen, and the rhythm becomes more urgent, stepping into a faster post-punk sound. The repeated final stanzas rise in intensity as longing turns to obsession: moonlit dreams, sleepless nights, and the pull of the sea where memory refuses to fade. The momentum builds around a series of anthemic refrains, carrying the emotion forward rather than letting it rest.
Annabel Lee is available as a free download on Bandcamp.
