Bynar
Biography
Bynar is a DJ and producer whose work is rooter in post-punk, goth, indie rock, and synthpop, with a focus on atmosphere, narrative, and darker moods. His main influences include The Cure, Nine Inch Nails, and Depeche Mode, as well as later bands such as Interpol and Editors. These artists inform both his DJ sets and his original compositions.
Since 2007, he has hosted the Indie Disco podcast, a long-running series dedicated to indie rock, post-punk, darkwave, shoegaze, and related underground scenes. In addition to DJing and radio work, he has also produced mashups that take vocals, riffs, and melodic ideas from alternative and darker strands of rock and recast them in electronic forms, before gradually turning to original composition.
His albums Eldritch Dreams and Underneath the Void draw on the themes and imagery of H. P. Lovecraft, recast as post-punk and indie rock songs. His most recent mini-album, Beneath the Pale Moon, adapts literary texts from the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, including poetry and ghost fiction. His background also includes music writing, through articles for a music magazine and a long-running independent blog.
